Steel Jackdaw Edition 1 takes flight
Steel Jackdaw was launched today, the 28th January 2021, after many months of thought and preparation.
Steel Jackdaw Magazine is the concept and passion project of Jason Conway, a Stroud UK-based creative freelance professional and multidisciplinary artist. Jason came up with the concept in the summer of 2020 of creating a new arts magazine that helped to create good in the world.
Fast forward to today and Steel Jackdaw Edition 1 is launched!
So what it Steel Jackdaw?
The aim of the magazine is to showcase the work of selected creatives of all disciplines, to give them a platform and to promote their work. Not only that, but to help these featured creatives to gain new commissions and sell their work.
The magazine encourages people to take positive action themselves, to create positive change, through supporting causes of their choice, starting their own initiatives or by getting involved with charities and fundraising.
A percentage of the revenue raised from submission payments and edition sales goes to two great charities. ClientEarth, an international charity using the law to challenge and stop environmental damage caused by government, business and corporations. The Nelson Trust is a Gloucestershire UK-based charity helping to support vulnerable women, as well as men and women recovering in their rehab centres. SJ (Steel Jackdaw) aims to not only promote environmental and social change but to do good too, through its donations.
Edition 1
Edition one is filled with a diverse selection of creative expression with great messages, to inspire readers to embrace creativity and the arts, take up a creative hobby, protect the environment and help their local communities.
Whats next?
The challenge, now that edition 1 is launched, is promoting it as much as possible, to create a loyal readership for future editions.
SJ is hoping to raise a good amount of funds to donate to both charities, but the success of this is in the hands of marketing and the number of people donating to download.
Steel Jackdaw will be a quarterly publication on a for-profit basis, but with 10% from submission payments and eBook sales being donated to both chosen charities. 5% for each charity.
